In a million years I did not think I would ever have a web site. A web site ... or web presence is a jolt to one's system, it means exposure, it means skills I don't
have....
My clients love my work - Holographic Repatterning, but find it difficult to explain to others. Since this type of business is strictly referral based, I needed a way to help clients
explain about me without the cumbersome
brochures etc. A client who is in the field of marketing said one day "my friend... you need a web site."
About the same time another friend was pushing my emotional limits by suggesting I learn how to make a web site on my own and that my work could be done online. I resisted, hemmed and
hawed with a million excuses as to
why not. This friend, who I cherish deeply, is also the one who made me buy WORD for Windows instead of WORD PERFECT when I upgraded the company computers in 1992. I did it kicking and
screaming as well.
Then strike 3, yet another friend, looking over my recently developed long distance program and its materials said definitively, "This would lend its self to an online
program quite nicely." and the clincher: "You would save
a lot of money on paper and mailing costs"
So I took the plunge and my computer friend Robert bought a new fangled product called FrontPage2000. He installed it, made some cryptic remarks about Bill Gates and the
terminology used in the software, and then said "since you are not a web developer you will have less hang-ups learning this." And finally the gauntlet dropped when he said "bet you can't get a web site up by the time I get back?" (b.
trip for 3 weeks).
"HUH" I replied.
I took the challenge of learning Frontpage, along with heavy duty aroma oils, meditation, deep breathing and positive thinking. I also found OUTFRONT and the friendly
support of people world wide. It was the first time I had ever actually participated in a online community thing. In 3 weeks my friend was shocked to find I had come up with the web
site I still have today with pretty much the same lay out. That was May 2000.
Since then, I have learned how to set up my courses on a subweb; how to use forms with information going to a data base, how to actually retrieve the information from
the data base via Data Base Results wizardry, and by
exporting it back to my hardrive. I can access my site live, can tell when a web host is lying, I can get material up in a jiffy, ....lots of practical skills.
There are numerous successes:
I manage my own web site making updates as frequently as they occur I have a web site that explains my work in a way that clients can't and the proof is the number of
times people write to compliment me on the web site
especially its content. The website reaches an audience world wide and while I don't have thousands of visitors or customers, it is amazing that someone in Australia can email her
friend in Switzerland about my site and 2 days later I have a telephone client for extensive work. I have clients for online group programs from all parts of the USA, Australia,
England, Germany, Scotland, Switzerland, Thailand and India. Most humbling is how doing my work online for folks on the other side of the world can still make a difference. Here are
some recent comments and
feedback from a session I did in December:
"For the first time in 9 years, my mother was sociable to me over the
holiday period. I feel very positive about the approaching year and know
that it will be my best year yet. " - Canada
"Hello dear Caroline! I in fact had really the best x-mas and new years time
since ever.So much love and laughter all was ready in time and we
experienced really a harmonious time. And one of the best things was that my
ex-partner mailed me x-mas night that he want a 2.chance .We are together
again and things looks better than ever . i thank you i really thank you
from all of my heart for what you are doing here for all. " - from Germany
"I have been getting alot of things done and I even went out and got job
after nine years of staying home. " - USA
The success is that I have the equivalent of a space ship, with a key in the ignition .... I am looking for the instructions for take-off. The space ship can serve a
large group very well. I now am looking for that next
success.... the large group.
My computer friend, Robert is making noises about something called XP and FP2002. I say... is it really necessary?
My thanks go to all the contributors at OUTFRONT, To you Thomas for making this web community possible and to Spooky for his help with login and data bases.... I am so grateful.
