The FrontPage Pictures Toolbar
part III
Resample a graphic

When you enlarge or
reduce a digital image, its pixel dimensions are
changed and the image should be resampled. When you
resample an image that has been made smaller, the
number of pixels in an image decreases. When you
increase its size, the number of pixels is increased
based on the colors in the image.
To resample an image
after you have changed its size in FrontPage, select it
and click on the resample icon. Sometimes when an image
is resampled, it can lose a significant amount of
sharpness and detail. When that occurs, it is best to
redo the graphic in an image editing program where you
have more options, such as unsharp mask, to improve the
look.

Rectangular/Circular/Polygon Hotspot, Highlight
Hotspots

Select
The Select toolbar icon is used to select images, move
them and make modifications to certain actions such as
changing the placement or shape of a hotspot.
Rectangle, circle,
or polygon hotspots

To make a section of
an image an active hyperlink, you create an invisible
region on it known as a hotspot. An image containing
more than one hotspot is called an image map. Hotspots
are invisible but there is usually some intuitive clue
to site visitors that parts of an image are hyperlinks.
Hotspots are often used when creating maps when the
site owner wants a visitor to go to a webpage for a
specific region or country.
By selecting one of
the three hotspot tools, you can draw a hotspot area on
an image. Click and drag your mouse button so the shape
surrounds the area where you want to place the hotspot.
To draw a polygon shape, click where you want the first
corner of the polygon to begin then do a series of
clicks to draw the polygon. Double click to close the
polygon shape. When you release the mouse button after
creating a hotspot, the Insert Hyperlink dialog box
immediately opens so you can type in an address/url.
Highlight Hotspots

Selecting this icon
lets you see the position of hotspots on an image.
Switch to the Select tool to resize and reposition
them.
Restore

You can apply several
tool commands to an image and, if necessary, undo all
of them at once by clicking on the Restore icon. It is
not possible to restore an image after it has been
saved.
Conclusion
With a little practice you'll soon get the hang of
using tools on the FrontPage Pictures Toolbar. It is no
substitute for a full-fledged graphic program but it is
very useful, convenient and effective. As web designer
whose main tool is FrontPage, I can't think of a time I
haven't used the Toolbar when designing site. Try it.
I'm sure you'll like it.
