FrontPage Help FAQ
Here are the answers to some questions we see a lot on the OutFront
Forums.
Getting Started with FrontPageOpening FrontPage for the first time and attempting
to create your first site can be a daunting prospect!
Everyone says it is easy - so why am I sitting staring
at the screen with no idea what to do?
Well, you have found Outfront, and we are here to
help. In this section we have some articles to help
those who are creating their first site or who are
absolute beginners at FrontPage. You will find more
useful articles in the
FrontPage
Techniques section and of course you will always
find people ready to help and advise in the
Outfront
Forums.
FP TechniquesFrontPage makes creating web sites easy and fun, but
there is still a lot to learn. This is a powerful
program with many capabilities and functions that are
often not used to maximum effect. We plan to expand
this part of Outfront into a resource that will take
you into parts of FrontPage you may not have known
about and show you how to use some of its most powerful
features to best effect on your site.
Spooky's Databases
Our resident FrontPage
Database guru, Spooky, wrote this section of tutorials.
As far as we know, it's the best set of FrontPage
Database tutorials on the Internet. Enjoy!
FrontPage 2000 has
included a much more useful tool in its implementation
of the Database Results Wizard (DRW) than was available
with FP98.
Using the
Insert -> Database command from the tool bar opens up
new possibilities like :
- Sending form information to a
database
- Querying the database with a form
- Querying the database with a
hyperlink
- Using hyperlink parameters
Its
also pretty flexible, so if you want to check out the
good stuff, you'll want these!
But first,
if you are beginning, there are
some things about ASP and the DRW you should know!
Success Stories
Here are some great Web stories written by people like you. It's not just about making money. It's about achieving your goals.
Pro Techniques
Once you have become accustomed to FrontPage or
Dreamweaver and
created a couple of sites you will quickly realize just
how much more there is to learn! In this section we
will look at some advanced
features of FrontPage,
at some important aspects of HTML and at ways that you can add non FrontPage
features to enhance your site or increase its
functionality.
Design TipsA good web site may seem like a nebulous thing but
is in fact remarkably easy to define. There are dozens, perhaps hundreds, of
things that make a bad or an average site less than it could be but
all good sites have just a few factors in common. All good sites have
- Good, useful content
- Well organized and therefore easily accessible content
- Well written easily read content
- A consistent and attractive appearance
These articles barely touch on any of the technologies involved in creating a
site. With the advent of WYSIWYG editors and with access to easy online tools just about anyone can create
some sort of web site. The skill lies in using the tools
at your disposal, however basic or complex, carefully and well with
clear objectives in mind at all times. In these articles we are primarily concerned here
with identifying the objectives.
Business Matters
Whether you are promoting a single site or trying to
build a business as a web designer you need to keep an
eye on the business side of web design. We plan to
build up a resource here of articles relating to both
online and offline aspects of creating successful web
sites.
